Show Notes

Using the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment teachings and the text “Guru Puja,” or “The Devotion to the Mentor” by the Fourth Panchen Lama, Robert A.F. Thurman leads listeners through the practice of “taking refuge”, giving an in-depth teaching on the three jewels of Buddhism and how the lessons of the historical Buddha can transform and improve the life of any sensitive being, no matter their background, faith or religious association.

Opening with a line-by-line reading of the “Refuge Prayer” recited at the start of Buddhist teachings and practices, Thurman explains the nature of faith and how to develop one’s compassion and inner wisdom through the study of Buddha Dharma and the Buddha’s life story.

This episode includes a short history of Buddhism in India & Tibet and an extended Jewel Tree Refuge guided meditation.

“Tibetans call their cherished tradition of Buddhism a wish-fulfilling jewel tree for its power to generate bliss and enlightenment within all who absorb its teachings. This path to enlightenment, it is taught, requires more than a sitting meditation practice alone. With “The Jewel Tree of Tibet”, honored scholar and teacher Robert Thurman brings these insights to you as they were meant to be transmitted through the spoken word.”

If you enjoy them and find them useful, please think of becoming a member of Tibet house us to help preserve Tibetan culture. Tibet house is the dial Lamas cultural center in America. All best wishes. Have a great day. Speaker 3 00:00:48 This is episode 296 taking refuge under the jewel tree of Tibet. Speaker 4 00:01:14 And we begin right away at the very beginning. And the very beginning is what is called the taking of refuge in the three jewels. The three jewels are the foundation of all forms of Buddhism. And the first jewel is the Buddha, which means the awakened one. And it doesn't just mean Shamo or Buddha. SEDAR the prince who became a Buddha in the fifth century before the common era in India, the historical Buddha, what we could call it means all awaken beings and awaken beings. Their most important episode is not merely that they're awakened, but is that they are teachers Shasta in Sanskrit that the Buddhas are teachers because remember awakening freedom from suffering salvation. If you will, liberation, omniscience Buddhahood awakening comes from your own understanding. It cannot come from the blessing of another, from some magical empowerment, from some sort of gimmick or membership in a group. Speaker 4 00:02:18 It can't even come only through your faith. Some good faith might help it can't come through meditation either by itself. It can only come through your understanding through your wisdom, through your insight, into your own reality is most important element of Buddha to us until we become a Buddha, is that Buddha is a teacher, gives us a teaching and a teaching is not an indoctrination is not a dogma, a teaching or a series of methods that we can use to develop ourselves, to learn, to think over and finally to meditate and finally to gain deep and profound and transforming insight, wisdom understanding. Speaker 4 00:03:01 So we take refuge in the Buddha. When we say we take refuge in the Buddha, we mean, we turn to the teaching of the reality of bliss, the teaching of the possibility of happiness, the teaching of the method of how to achieve happiness in whatever form it comes to us, whether it comes as Christianity, whether it comes as humanism, whether it comes as Hinduism or sophism or Buddhism, it doesn't matter. The teacher is Buddha to us is one who can point the way to our own reality for us could be a scientist, could be a religious teacher. Speaker 4 00:03:36 Second refuge. The second jewel of refuge is DMA. DMA means to hold DMA means reality itself in its highest, meaning it has a range of meanings in the highest meaning of DMA. It is the reality. That is our own reality that holds us in freedom from suffering, holds us in a state of bliss. Dharma is our own reality that we seek to fully understand, to fully open to and Dharma. Therefore also by deriving from that, it is those methods and the teachings of those methods that enable us to open the arts and the sciences that enable us to open ourselves are also DMA. Speaker 4 00:04:21 And therefore the practices that we do, which will open us, which follow those teachings, which implement in our lives, in our practice and in our performance, which implement those methods, those arts that is also DMA. So virtues and ethics and practices are also DMA. And even the qualities that we develop, the positive qualities that lead us toward freedom and reality, those are also DMA. And then DMA can come to mean a religion. DMA can come to mean duty, even kind of new kinds of routines, because that's what it used to mean in Hinduism invaded Bromm before bud, I used it in this liberating way. DMA meant the religion. For example, DTA means do your DMA. That means do your duty, follow your role as a warrior. For example, as Krishna tells, Ajuah follow your DMA. That means follow your duty, but in the Buddhist term, it more means like Joseph Campbell follow your bliss is what it means. Bliss is your freedom. So it means follow your freedom more came to mean in India after Buddhist time in Hinduism, as well as Buddhism and Jainism, as well as Buddhism. Speaker 4 00:05:33 So the second jewel is DMA and that is the real jewel of refuge actually in Buddhism. Finally, we take refuge in reality, because that is the secure refuge. If we took refuge in any unrealistic thing, it could be blown down by this and that howling wind. But when we take refugee in reality, that is what endures it is. Uncreate. It is not made by anyone reality. It lasts. It is there. And therefore it can give refuge. The final taking of course, receiving of refuge in reality is the embodying of reality in our being is realizing that reality is our body is therefore the final refuge is only being Buddha ourselves, but meanwhile, to whatever extent we can open to reality, we take refuge in reality, the second one third one third jewel is the sunga the community of those who are seeking that refuge, who are seeking that understanding who are seeking to embody that DMA, who are seeking to be Buddha and teachers of other beings, teachers of freedom to other beings. Speaker 4 00:06:42 So these are the three jewels, which all would say in Sri Lanka, in Thailand, in Burma, bud, they all say no more means I take refuge or I bow to meaning by bowing, I take refuge, but them, and then SU means a refuge, a resort Kami. I take resort to Buddha resort has a good double meaning of like also like a vacation resort. So it's not only some sort of PST thing of going someplace and bowing to someone and like going to some sort of prison. Cell is like going to a vacation resort to go to rest, to relax, to restore your energy, to enjoy, to find peace like Shana, the word Shana one who goes to Sadam is a Shana. And they sometimes translate that as aesthetic. But I like to translate as a vacationer one who goes and takes a break. Speaker 4 00:08:02 I take refuge in reality, and I go there for a refuge or for a resort and Nomi, I take refuge in the community and I go there for a resort now in the Tibetan form because of the particular history, as I said, where Tibet becomes the sort of incubator preserver, the crucible, the special mountain Lotus, where in the Quin contestants of the Indian Buddhist civilization is cradled snow mountain Lotus. They add to the three gems, the Lama, the guru because of this insistence on imediacy. The guru is not a fourth jewel that says wrong interpretation. The guru is the making immediate of the three jewels. The mentor is so that one says, I take refuge in the guru. Speaker 4 00:09:09 I go for refuge to the guru, meaning that the guru's body is the sunga. The gurus speech is the DMA. The guru's mind is the Buddha. Otherwise, if you would say NA Budd, you're thinking of Shaim Buddhi and hid Buddha in history who died and passed away and has gone. When you say, I go for a refuge to him, how can you go for refuge? I go to a historical memory. I go to my faith that he once was on the world that maybe another Buddha will come my tray. There's no one around for you to go refuge in. If you think of Buddha as long and gone. Speaker 4 00:09:50 So then the Lama mind becomes the living Buddha in your use. You make an icon out of the Lama, just like in a Tebo temple. They have an image of Shakia, moon Budha. They don't think that image is Shakia, moon Budha. They think he attained pioneer Nirvana thousands of years earlier, but the image is a way in which their memory can focus on Shakia Budha, but the Tibetans take the living guru as this icon and focus their memory on the Shamo Buda. By thinking that the mind of my guru is Shamo Buda taking refuge to the teaching. There are texts, texts have all been transmitted through history. They were memorized and they were written and they were copied. Then they were edited and they were corrected, but then they changed. And then this and that, the no text actually completely identically can follow what the Buddha said. They're only again, a memory, a commemoration, a reminder. And again, if Buddha's not there speaking, they can't find the Buddha speech, which is the opening into the doorway into reality itself for us. But with Alma, the guru, the mentor speech, then I say that the mentor speech is the DMA. I take refuge in that speech becomes alive to me. The DMA becomes therefore realizable to me, reality doorway is opened for me, reality of freedom and liberation. Speaker 4 00:11:15 If the sunga thought of as those great hats like SHA PRA and in the past, and then later ones in the tradition, Budha, una, they AGA they're all gone. And what's thes some guys around here and there. The Lama is a monk like Shari PRA like SHA muni is a fully ordained Biku or Biku the guru. The mentor is mentor can be woman too. The mentor, therefore is a member of that same unbroken lineage of community. Their body is part of the community. Their body is restrained by the vows of individual liberation. Their mind is the mind of the Mah of the universal vehicle of love and compassion. The spirit of enlightenment of infinite love and compassion for all beings. So now gurus the mentor's body becomes that. Speaker 4 00:12:10 So then we repeat together. You can either say it, or you can just think it, I, and all space full of mother beings from now until enlightenment take refuge in the mentor and the three jewels. The more Shanghai, the more bud, the more D the more Shanghai, the more, the more bud, the more D the more Shanghai. Yeah. We repeat three times so that our own bodies, our own speech and our own mind, the three levels of our being from exterior to interior, all are seen all go into the refuge of Budda. Man, sunga made immediate by the presence of the unbroken lineage of the mentors. Then the particular refuge of the practice of the guru worship. For the sake of all mother beings, I will become a mentor deity to install beings in the Supreme exhalation of being mentor deities. For the sake of all mother beings, I will become a mentor deity to install all beings in the Supreme exhalation of being mentor deities. For the sake of all mother beings, I will become a mentor deity to install all beings in the Supreme exhalation of being mentor deities. Speaker 4 00:14:00 If you do this as a Christian, then you would say for the sake of all mother beings, I will become a Christ. This is like the Christian mystical monastic teaching of the I Matio Christi that we have from the medieval Christian monastic period, the imitation of Christ. It's like, I will live up to the mystical body of Christ. I will embody Christ's virtues. And you don't necessarily mean this is a vow that you will do this path, that you're gonna go and have yourself crucified. Although, for example, the Jesuits in their stations of the cross meditation that Ignatius taught, they go, and they think of themselves as a whole retreat that you do lay people do, where they visualize themselves as carrying the cross and going to go GATA and going through the whole thing. And in that sense, even there, they have like a visualization and they do that. Speaker 4 00:14:52 So it's not only that you could do this, people do do this, but the point is, then people often don't do this. They say, well, I'm a Christian or a Sufi or a Buddhist or Jew, but I can't be good. I'm gonna be a nasty businessman all day. I'm gonna be a nasty egotist, but then I'll go to church or synagogue or temple or mosque. And then I'll pray to be cleansed, you know, and then let Jesus cleanse me or someone else will do it for me, bud or Ava will save me later. And I'm just in hopeless sinner and there's no way I'll deal with it. There's a way of being religious like that. And even then, it's good because at least, although you kind of excuse yourself, six days a week, six days, and then 22 hours of Sunday, at least for one hour or two hours, you'll go to church. Speaker 4 00:15:36 And you'll sort of try to be one with the savior being, however you visualize the mentor being, but now in the planet, maybe we can take some inspiration in this sense, from Buddhism, from this sort of essence of Buddhism, in the sense that we must more live up to our ideals, we must more make it 7 24. We must be in communion 7 24. We must follow the Hadid of Muhammad and do the ethical thing. And the virtuous thing, 7 24, we must not kill, not steal, not commit sexual misconduct, not lie, not et cetera, but hold malicious, grudges, not greedily. Think of getting something from others. So when I say I will practice a path, I will become Christ. Speaker 4 00:16:22 I will imitate Christ for the sake of all my mother beings so that they too can come to an understanding where they too can become Christ is sort of pushing to this level. The kingdom of God is within you type of level that is there in all the teachings. If one does this as a humanist, you say, I will become Socrates. The wisest of all who knows he or she knows nothing, but who seeks to harness the soul and the passions and make them work with their Apollonian drive of reason to harness them to the chariot of reason so that the intelligent passions guided by the reigns of reason lead us to a full and a benevolent and an altruistic life leaving a legacy to all beings. Even though I myself think of myself as not having a future life, I think of myself as just part of my lineage as a humanist. Speaker 4 00:17:24 So in this way, similarly, the three jewels I take re in Budha them would be, I take re in the Christ. I take re in DMA, I take refuge in the holy ghost, perhaps in the holy spirit. I take re in the reality as God knows it, or the holy spirit knows it, not a diluted reality of ignorant beings. I take re in sunga. I took privilege in the holy community of all the great saints and all the great monks, and even the lay people who are trying to do something positive within that tradition. As a Jew, I take refuge in Moses. I take refuge in the DMA would be, I take refuge in the law, actually DMA means law in secular, China and gen east Asian society. And even in India, DTRA means law school, the law text in India today, the word DMA can mean law. Speaker 4 00:18:15 So I take refuge in the law, the Torah instead of DMA. And I take refuge in the community of rabbis and saints at Hasidic masters. Now to mention in earlier days, there are plenty and all of those traditions of angels and plenty of divine beings, many different kinds, not just the one absolute transcendental God, God has all his angels, all his spirits and beings that are there benevolently to bless you remember in the arm again. And Jesus comes with an army of them, but modern secularism has people pretend there's not much of that, you know, and this is how we do it in general. And this is how the Buddhist tradition would hope to inspire other traditions to use their tradition in that way. And this is how the Lama, the guru worship would hope to inspire all Buddhist traditions to make immediate the Buddhist presence, not just think of it as something in a historical past. And we are lost here in a sort of world where we can't do that, but to make it immediate, become an RHA today, Budva today, not just emulate or admire the ancient Bova. Speaker 4 00:19:28 Now we'd link ourselves with this thing. And now we create the wish fulfilling gem tree, the wish granting gem tree. And now we go into meditative mode and I will simply read. So just try to see it as it goes along, don't grasp for it. Don't get frustrated and feel. It's complicated. Just think of it as a wish granting gem tree, like you suddenly were Jack and the Beanstalk, and you came around the corner and there was this giant Beanstalk reaching up into infinite space except a tree. And except you made of jewels. And first we create a foundation for it by giving away the universe in our visualization home, uh, home M invokes, the universal divine energy of all Buddhas and gods and DAS and teachers and profits and saviors of all traditions throughout the universe, om, invokes their presence and their energy and their blessing, uh, celebrates that this permeates us through and through and radiates through our invocation to all beings everywhere. And home integrates this energy in this moment, in this situation that we are currently in. Speaker 4 00:20:48 So it's like, ah, amen from the cosmic vibration of divine energy in the universe, Omar hu. If you're a Jew or Christian or Muslim, you can say, ah, men or the Arabic or the Hebrew version of ah, men, ah, um, uh, primal wisdom in reality appears as inner offering and individual offerings and works to create the distinctive BLIS void wisdom in the fields of the sixth senses, outer, inner, and secret clouds of offering totally filling earth, sky, and all of space within conceivable visions and sacred substances. Just think of everything that you can think of every beautiful thing that you know of, not only your own possessions, but things that you've admired and seen in museums or seen in advertisements or seen in movies or seen any beautiful gems and flowers and gardens and landscapes and planets, all of it. And think of it as giving it away to the enlightened beings, to the savior beings in the universe, in a way it's a way of giving up your perception to make offering is to give up your possession and perception of things. And to turn it over to the pure perception of the enlightened being of the divine, being to whom it never looks imperfect, who can see every beauty in everything and every joy and bliss in everything in its reality. So you're giving it away, giving it up is giving over your perception to a higher perception to always in one's retreat. One thinks of giving the world away will come back to it again and again. Speaker 4 00:22:43 Now the description in the middle of all good offering clouds arranged in the vast heavens of BLIS void indivisible in the crown of a miraculous wish granting gem tree. Radiantly beautiful with leaves, flowers and fruits on a sparkling jewel lion thrown on cushions of spreading Lotus sun and moon sits my rice kind root mentor. The actuality of all enlightened beings, his form is of a fulfilled Mandiant with one face, two arms smiling radiantly right hand in the Dharma teaching gesture left hand flat in meditation, holding a bowl of Alex ear. He wears the three robes glowing Saffrin color head beautiful with the yellow scholars hat at his heart sits the on the present Lord Vada with one phase two arms Sapphire in color, holding Vara and bell embracing lady VA got us of the diamond realm, both ecstatic in the play of bliss and void relent with many faceted Juul ornaments draped with divinely wrought silk can close adorned with the signs and marks shining like the sun surrounded by halos of five colored rainbows. My mentor sits in the LA Badra posture. His five life processes are really the five bliss Lords. His four elements, the four ladies, his sense, media, nerves, muscles, and joints, really the live Bodi, his body hairs, the 21,000 saints, his limbs, the Lords of ferocity, his light rays are protectors and fierce spirits. And the world God's lie beneath him around him. Sit in rows, an ocean of live and ancestral mentors, archetype deities, and divine mandala hosts, Buddha Budva angels and defenders of the Dharma. Speaker 4 00:24:52 Christ's prophets. Goddess's teachers of every variety in every tradition and all planets in all the universe. Each of their three doors of body speech and mind is marked by the three VAs. Omar hung the iron hooks of light rays from their heart homes draw spiritual duplicates from their natural abodes wisdom, heroes and icon heroes become indivisible and substantially present. If you're doing this with a view to any tradition in place of the mentor that I place as indivisible from his holiness, the Dal Lama, or Budha or Z kapa or Gudo, and Pache you put in their Jesus, you put in their mother, Mary, you put in their Muhammad, you put in their kisser, you put in their Krishna, you put in their whatever guru, you have, whatever teacher, you know, you put in their Socrates and you don't have to have just one. The jewel lion throne is in the central crown of the tree, which is this vast tree that rises before us, out of an island in a jewel lake that sits below us on the top of the world. Speaker 4 00:26:11 And this vast tree rises there shining. Radiantly filling us with rainbow light and at each branch and on each leaf, there sits another heavenly angel like kind of heavenly host, whatever we think of as angels, whatever beings who make us feel good to imagine our parents, our teachers, whoever it might be. It is your heavenly host. It is not my heavenly host. I am of course reciting mine, but it is your heavenly host. It could be, she, it could be, he, it could be Buddhist could be Christian could be Jewish, could be secular, humanist, whatever you want. Doist Confucian Hindu Jane or all of them together. The vast perennial host of enlightened beings and from them light raise flow and flow down to us melting our sense of ordinariness, our ordinary self image, our ordinary self identity, our ordinary feeling of being just sort of Joe or Jeff or Jim or Bob or Ann or Nana in the ordinary world in ordinary building. Speaker 4 00:27:31 And we temporarily suspend that whole thing. We're in a sacred shrine space, like in a force field filled with rainbow energy with luminous solar light, intense, blazing, powerful buoyant energy. We are unfolded in communion with the mentor being because of that energy we're lifted out of our normal perspective, our normal self-limiting self-image and our potential is unfolded. We're capable of understanding any new thing we're capable of seeing more deeply, any old thing we're capable of being close to Christ, close to Muhammad, close to Buddha, close to God, close to Mary, close to the goddess. We're not far away from them. There they are in this giant jewel tree fulfilling all our wishes of happiness light flows from them. Like it was almost liquid Alexia, jeweled flowing, brilliant radiant light, filling us in every pour, pouring into the crown of our head, driving away, all doubt and anxiety and self concern, like a kind of shadowy flickering things in our heart and mind and body, which just so washed out of us and flowing away. Speaker 4 00:29:00 And then we think that we' in this magical environment in front of lake Montea RVA, the highest lake crystal lake in the world with a magical island and the magical world tree, which fulfilling gem tree growing out of that lake with all the heavenly being shining on all the Hindu gurus, GU KU and Han Ram shva Uma Raha, Rama, Cita, Haman, Saint Hildegard, being St. Francis, Thomas Merton all together there. And particularly they are looking happily chatting with each other, sitting on their branches of this jewel jingling tree in this radiant light. And they're happy because we are meditating. We are on a retreat. We are visualizing ourselves in this space of all potential space of all fruition. Speaker 4 00:30:30 And we are gonna turn our mind to a path of evolution, accelerating evolution for the sake of all mother beings, to joining their number of being a refuge for others being free and blissful ourselves. And now we think around us on this bluff sloping down toward the lake are all the beings that we know all the beings that we barely acquainted with and all the beings that we don't know all in human form, unless we talk to animals and animals can talk with us. In this case, we can have some animals too, and they're all around us. And they don't see that jewel tree at the moment, but they see us and they're looking at us. And as we fill up with light, as it flows down for us in blessings, from the jewel tree and from the mentor deity and the jewel tree, the mentor beings, the savior beings, the goddesses, the gods, as it flows down to us, we fill up with that light and it reflects out from us to the beings around us. Speaker 4 00:31:38 And so we feel well, they're not seeing that mentor beings and the jewel divine tree, but they're seeing us. And as much as we find communion and we become luminous to whatever extent they will receive that blessing through us. So we are doing this understanding for them, and we look at them and we think of our loved ones there. And of course we want any benefit we have in our mind, any opening, any joy, any happiness immediately to be shared with them or doing it for them, beings that we don't know, they could be our intimates. They could be our loved ones. They have been in previous lives. They will be in future lives and they could be in this life. We could get to know them. So we send them the same loving blessing, see them just as equal. And then the beings that don't like us and that we don't like them. Speaker 4 00:32:27 And even thinking of them, there is almost offensive cuz we can't stand them, but we put them there anyway. And we radiated and we bless them. And we re fact that actually they might have been our loved ones in, in previous time. They probably were some of them, they will be again, we will find out because enemy becomes friend, friend becomes enemy, both friend and enemy become unknown, unknown, become both friend and enemy. All beings keep changing in their roles and relationships to us again and again. So we've tried to feel equally towards all of the beings around us, an equal love and blessing and affection, an equal commitment to opening their minds and hearts as our minds and hearts open. Speaker 4 00:33:12 And when they see this light from us, even the ones who don't like us, they're kind of intrigued by it. They send back a vibration in the case of the loved ones of gratitude of the unknown ones of interest of the unliked ones kind of challenge. But all of it is energy and it comes back to us in the form of more encouragement and energy. And then we send the light back, our gratitude and our offering our feeling of turning over the world to the enlightened beings in the refuge jewel tree. And so we created a kind of infinite figure, eight of positive energy, positive reinforcement between us and the jewel tree and all the beings around us with which we sit at the nexus point for all of our meditations and reflections in the future sessions will be within the context of this environment. Even though we may not be able to see it in any detail, we may not be able to visualize it. We shouldn't feel frustrated or worried that it's complicated. We can grow used to it, but just, we automatically imagine that we've come into this luminous realm at the beginning of our meditation sessions of our discussion sessions and all of our discussions are carried on within the framework of this wishful fulfilling gem tree Speaker 4 00:34:29 So that we're not in a space of our ordinary limited, frustrating and disappointing reality. We're in a space of infinite potential, infinite possibility, infinite, luminosity, infinite, openness and friendliness, unlimited friendliness. Speaker 4 00:34:52 We feel at home in this, we develop a feeling of being at home in this space. And then sometimes we can spend time visualizing exactly this in that branch or tree or lion throne or individual figure who we know even the glowing face of our most beloved mentor, whether it's Jesus or Mary or the goddess or Krishna or bud doesn't matter. Then the beings above us, they feel really happy when we do this. When we enter this connection with them, then we see on the crown of every single one of the beings, a diamond O letter could be in English, om, on the crown of their heads, all of them are Ruby red, ah, standing at the throat of all of them and Sapphire home, standing at the heart of all of them blowing and radiating and sparkling. And from the white O white light raise flow to a white O on top of our head and merge with our body and our body becomes diamond and substance and blessed by them and one with them. And we feel very blessed in our body and healed. And then the white, um, that white diamond light goes out to all the bodies of the beings around us, reflects out from us and they feel healed and their body feels empowered. Speaker 4 00:36:17 And then next to Ruby red, ah, at their throat radiates Ruby rays, and they flow to us like liquid Juul, elixir fill a Ruby red eye at our throat and blesses our speech. And our speech becomes one with the speech of them. And then this red eye reflects out from our throat, goes to the throats of all beings around us, which becomes marked by red a and their speech is blessed. And then the blue whom radiates blue Sapphire light rays that flow down to us to the blue whom in our heart and fill our hearts with the mind of all Buddha, the oneness with reality of all Buddhas, deep Sapphire blue, and this blue then reflects out from our heart to the hearts of all the beings around us. And they are bound by a deep blue Sapphire blue in a communion with us. Speaker 4 00:37:13 And then finally the white, the red and the blue all simultaneously radiate from all of the beings, all our mentors and all their attendance and all the ocean of angels and all the heavenly host of beings and Socrates and Marys and Buddhas and St Teresas and flows to us simultaneously in three brilliant jewel, Ray of white, red, and blue, and fill our body with body speech and mind of all Buddhas and mind and speech. And the mentor beings are so delighted with this, that we are visualizing this. They flow into us, they melt and dissolve and we no longer can see the jewel tree and it flows into us and it becomes one with us. It enters and merges with us. And our heart becomes one with the jewel tree and with all the mentor beings and Socrates and Buddha and Jesus will become one and become present and manifest in our heart. Speaker 4 00:38:10 And then we feel so delighted and charged and buoyant and energized by this that we want to dedicate the merit of our meditation and our reflection to all the beings around us. And we dissolve into pure jewel, light and flow into all of them. And they become charged with light and are being merges with each one of them, infinite numbers of them. We become one with them. We dissolve disappear and everything becomes a vast, great bliss state, great bliss, void, indivisible jewel state. And then they think, where did we go in their ordinary mind? What happened? So, and so was sitting there radiating to me and the moment they think that, and we think where are we? And then we're back in our ordinary mind at the conclusion of that meditation. And that concludes this session. Introducing the jewel wish granting gem tree of Tibet. Speaker 3 00:39:29 The Bob Thurman podcast is produced under a creative comments, no derivatives license.
